Question by moquinnord: How do you keep the Shark (floor mop / steamer) from streaking?
I love the Shark, except that it streaks my hardwood floor. Is anyone else having this problem? Have you been able to fix this? Have any tips for me? Thanks –

  1. Like he said, use vinegar and water, but also, dont us fabric softener when you wash the fabric that attaches to the head of your mop.

  2. Does is always streak, has always streaked or did this problem start after you had the unit awhile?

    My ideas:

    1. Wash the microfiber pad in a load with about 1/2 c. white vinegar and NO fabric softener. The white vinegar will help make the microfiber let go of the dirt, remove water mineral deposits and any fabric softener that might have gotten in it. Either the mineral deposits or fabric softener could be causing the problem.

    2. More on water mineral deposits. Try cleaning your unit (follow the directions in the manual for descaling). Basically, you put a certain amount of white vinegar in it and let it sit overnight, drain it out, rinse with clean water and you should be good.

    3. What have you used on the floor in the past? Is it possible that the residues from those cleaners is the culprit? If you haven’t had the Shark very long or been using it on the hardwoods for awhile, that’s quite possibly the problem. Many cleaners we use leave residues; some are quite difficult to remove. The Shark might be removing the residue a little at a time and that’s causing the streaks. Even window cleaner leaves one and makes dirt more prone to sticking to it so we need more window cleaner! Perhaps damp mopping a couple times with a warm water and white vinegar (1 cup to 1 gallon) and a barely damp microfiber mop will help the situation.
